RYOKANS providing rooms with private open-air baths
Book Yunoshimakan in Gero Onsen (Gifu)―― Occupying an area of 165,000 square metres, it is an old, traditional onsen ryokan nestling in the mountains. Located on an upland, it affords a commanding view of Gero Onsen’s townscape. The three-storied wooden main building was designated as a registered tangible cultural property of Japan. Its guest rooms are washitsu (Japanese-style rooms) of which many are equipped with open-air onsen baths. Gender-segregated large public scenic baths, open-air scenic baths, and a rental bath outside the rooms for private use are also available. As to dining, you can enjoy authentic kaiseki meals in your own room.

Access: One hour 30 minute by JR Limited Express from Nagoya Station to Gero Station, then 5 minute by shuttle bus (or 25 minutes on foot) (Advance booking required)

Top hot spring resort – Gero
One of the three most famous hot springs in Japan. It has 610 years of history as a hot spring. With a pH of 9.2, the bath is extremely smooth and has a natural soap effect.
