Book Haiya in Awara Onsen (Fukui)—— Founded in 1884, it is an old ryokan with 50 guest rooms in four different buildings. The detached guest house “Shofuan,” which has been in business since 1884, is particularly noteworthy. Each room in Shofuan has its own traditional Japanese-style garden. Among the 15 Shofuan rooms, all with distinctive interior layout, there are 6 rooms that come with open-air onsen baths. Boasting a private spring source located in its own grounds, this ryokan offers gender-segregated large public baths with open-air baths, as well as rental onsen baths outside the rooms for private use.

Access: 15 minutes by bus from Komatsu Airport to Komatsu Station, then 20 minutes by JR Limited Express to Awara Onsen Station and 10-min shuttle bus ride from there (Advance booking required)
