Book Yagyu no Sho in Shuzenji Onsen (Shizuoka) —— Located deep in the hot spring town and surrounded by a bamboo forest, this hidden ryokan has a strong traditional feeling. All 15 guest rooms are in the Japanese architectural style of sukiya-zukuri, and have their own onsens. Although the tastes and indoor layout are different from one room to another, all rooms provide a romantic setting, with the scenery of a beautiful Japanese garden and an undeveloped woodland area near a village. The men and women’s large public baths, equipped with open-air baths, switch every day, so all guests of this ryokan can enjoy both public baths, one in the morning and one at night. The authentic kaiseki meals are also famous.
Access: Two hours 10 minutes by JR Limited Express from Tokyo Station to Shuzenji Station, then 10 minutes by taxi
