Book Seiryuso in Kumamoto Yamaga Onsen (Kumamoto)— Located along a river near the old houses on the ancient route of Bungo Kaido, this long-established ryokan has a history of over a century. It consists of two buildings, Suikyoan and Rokumontei, both built in a pure Japanese style. All guest rooms at Suikyoan come with open-air onsen baths, and meals are served in a private dining room. You can also enjoy the historical hot spring, which boasts an abundant amount of spring water, at the large public baths and foot baths.
Access: 40 minutes by JR Shinkansen from Hakata Station to Shin-Tamana Station, then 40 minutes by bus to Yamaga Bus Center and 12-min walk from there
