Ibusuki Onsen is a popular hot spring area in Kagoshima, a prefecture in southern Kyushu.
While located in Japan, it has an exotic atmosphere of a southern land. Located next to the sea, Ibusuki Onsen is sometimes referred to as the “Hawaii of the Orient”.
Suna-mushi sand bath, in which bathers in yukata (light cotton kimono) are covered with and steamed by hot sands, is particularly famous.
Of course, ordinary hot springs are also available. Many onsen ryokans can be found along the coast.
Ibusuki Station is accessible by riding a JR train from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, which is the southern terminus of the Kyushu Shinkansen. It takes about 70 minutes.、
