Book Kakunodate Sanso Wabizakura in Kakunodate & Lake Tazawa Onsen (Akita)—— This ryokan, endowed with a private spring source, is located deep in the mountains of Kakunodate, which is a town famous for its samurai residences, and is sometimes referred to as “the Little Kyoto.” Its building is designed in the style of an old folk house, and is tasteful with facilities such as an irori (a type of traditional Japanese sunken hearth) lounge. The building also exists in harmony with nature. All the 10 rooms come with semi-open-air onsen baths, and let you admire the beautiful natural scenery. There is also a rental open-air bath outside the rooms for private use.
Access: One hour 30 minutes by share-ride taxi from Akita Airport to Kakunodate Station (advance booking required), then 15 minutes by taxi
