Tamatsukuri Onsen in Shimane Prefecture is a charming hot spring area, yet it is still relatively unknown among foreign tourists, making it a hidden gem.
So, I’d like to introduce it to everyone as soon as possible.

It is said to be one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. In old historical texts, it is written that “after bathing once, you become beautiful; after bathing twice, all illnesses are cured,” which is why it is called “Kami no Yu” (“Hot Water of the Gods”).
It is also famous as a “beautifying hot spring” because its water, rich in moisturizing elements, feels almost like a lotion.

The hot spring town is about 15 minutes by car from central Matsue City. Along the Tamayu River, traditional inns line the streets, each competing in charm with features such as large public baths with open-air baths, fine cuisine, and beautiful gardens.
In addition to the inns, there are souvenir shops, restaurants, and cafés, as well as matchmaking power spots and foot baths. Beauty products made with the hot spring water and special bottles that let you take the hot spring water home are also popular.

There are many attractive sightseeing spots nearby, such as Izumo Oyashiro Shrine (also called Izumo Taisha Shrine), Matsue Castle, and Lake Shinji, which is famous for its beautiful sunsets. Local specialties such as Izumo soba and Matsue wagashi sweets are also well known.
Please do visit if you have the chance.
