Book Umi to Irihi no Yado Teisui in Oga Peninsula Onsen (Akita)—— This ryokan is situated on the Oga Peninsula, a rugged peninsula which projects west into the Sea of Japan and has a lot of great scenic spots and oddly-shaped rocks, but is still largely unknown to foreign tourists. You can take in the view of the unlimited expanse of ocean from both the guest rooms and the gender-segregated large public baths. The scenery of sunset is particularly marvellous. As to dining, in addition to fresh seafood from the nearby waters, you can also try special hot pot like “Oke-nabe” (lit. barrel hot pot) which is a local winter delicacy made by putting burnt stones into a tub with fish and other ingredients inside.
